Deja has a special passion for supporting military veterans, active-duty service members, and military families. As both a military spouse and someone raised within a military family, she understands firsthand the unique experiences, transitions, sacrifices, and stressors that often accompany military life. Her personal connection to the military community allows her to provide a supportive and understanding environment where clients feel seen, heard, and valued.


Deja believes therapy should be a collaborative process built on trust, respect, and genuine human connection. Her therapeutic style is warm, approachable, and down-to-earth, creating a space where clients can openly explore their experiences without judgment. She recognizes that seeking therapy can feel intimidating and strives to help clients feel comfortable, supported, and empowered from the very first session.


Drawing from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Person-Centered Therapy, and Strengths-Based approaches, Deja works collaboratively with clients to identify unhelpful patterns, build effective coping skills, strengthen resilience, and foster personal growth. She believes each individual already possesses unique strengths and abilities, and her role is to help clients access those strengths while navigating life's challenges with greater confidence and clarity.

Emily Singh, CSAC, MSW, is a Supervisee in Social Work practicing under the clinical supervision of Desiree Smith, LCSW-S, Founder and Clinical Director of Painted Bird Psychotherapy. Her path to becoming a therapist has been shaped by both military service and a deep passion for helping others create meaningful and lasting changes in their lives.


Emily believes that every person possesses the capacity for growth, healing, and resilience when provided with the right support, guidance, and opportunities. She is dedicated to creating a safe, compassionate, and welcoming therapeutic environment where clients feel heard, respected, and empowered to focus on what matters most to them.


Her approach is collaborative, client-centered, and grounded in the belief that therapy should honor everyone’s unique experiences, strengths, and goals. Emily works with adolescents and adults experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, substance use concerns, life transitions, relationship challenges, and personal growth struggles. She is particularly passionate about helping clients develop insight, build practical coping skills, and strengthen confidence as they navigate life's challenges.


Drawing from evidence-based and strengths-focused approaches, Emily partners with clients to identify patterns, foster resilience, and create meaningful change. She views the therapeutic relationship as a collaborative journey where clients are encouraged to explore their experiences, reconnect with their strengths, and move toward greater emotional wellness and fulfillment.


Emily believes that healing is not about becoming someone different, it is about discovering, nurturing, and strengthening the parts of yourself that have always been there. She is committed to walking alongside her clients as they work toward healing, growth, and a more authentic connection with themselves and others.

Jazsel Frijas is a Supervisee in Social Work practicing under the clinical supervision of Desiree Smith, LCSW-S, Founder and Clinical Director of Painted Bird Psychotherapy. She is dedicated to helping adolescents and adults navigate life's challenges with compassion, practical support, and evidence-based interventions that foster healing, resilience, and personal growth.


With over 17 years of experience as a school counselor and additional experience in acute clinical settings, Jazsel has supported individuals and families through crisis, anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, life transitions, and emotional challenges. Her extensive background in education and mental health has provided her with a deep understanding of the unique needs of adolescents, young adults, and families, navigating difficult seasons of life.


As the wife of a retired Army veteran and the mother of three adult children, Jazsel understands firsthand the realities of military life, family transitions, loss, uncertainty, and change. Her personal and professional experiences allow her to connect with clients in a meaningful and authentic way while providing a supportive environment where individuals feel heard, respected, and empowered.


Jazsel's therapeutic approach is collaborative, strengths-based, and skill-focused. She combines empathy, practical strategies, and evidence-informed interventions to help clients build emotional awareness, strengthen coping skills, develop resilience, and navigate life's challenges with greater confidence. Her calm and grounded presence helps clients feel safe, understood, and equipped with tools that create meaningful change both inside and outside of therapy.


Jazsel believes that healing begins through connection and that growth remains possible even during life's most difficult moments. She is committed to helping clients discover hope, build confidence, and move toward lasting emotional wellness and personal fulfillment.

Shemeka Needam is a Resident in Counseling practicing under the clinical supervision of [ENTER LPC NAME-LICENSE NUMBER] Senior Trauma Specialist and Clinical Consultant & Training Director at Painted Bird Psychotherapy. 


With over 16 years of experience in the mental health field, Shemeka is passionate about helping individuals heal, grow, and rediscover their strengths during life's most challenging seasons. She works with teens and adults experiencing depression, trauma, anxiety, substance use concerns, life transitions, and emotional difficulties, providing a compassionate and supportive environment where clients feel heard, valued, and empowered. Shemeka holds a Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling and has extensive experience facilitating women's groups, substance use recovery groups, crisis intervention services, and conducting assessments for individuals requiring higher levels of care. 


Her diverse clinical background has provided her with a deep understanding of the challenges individuals face and the resilience they possess in overcoming them. Her therapeutic approach is trauma-informed, person-centered, and strengths-based. She incorporates Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), trauma-focused interventions, and evidence-based counseling techniques to help clients build healthier coping skills, improve emotional regulation, strengthen self-awareness, and create meaningful change. 


Drawing from a faith-informed perspective and a genuine passion for helping others, Shemeka strives to create a safe and welcoming space where healing can occur and personal growth can flourish.
